Total Distance for today: 0 miles
Total Distance for Tour: approx. 553 miles
LOCATION: Tour Paused for Holidays in Raleigh, NC. I’m visiting with family, friends, and fans back in Fowlerville, MI
STATUS: Becoming an Uncle!

Carson Szelkowski

It seems that the snow storms that are currently transforming the east coast, as far south as Atlanta, into a “Winter Wonderland” are not the only factors making me glad I paused for the holidays. My sister in law is supposed to give birth to my soon-to-be nephew, Carson, in late January or early February; however, it seems Carson wanted to see his uncle before I take off to finish this skate across America!

My parents and I drove over to visit my brother, Jared, and his wife, Traci, on Christmas night. When we arrived, Traci was having pain and discomfort. We did not know at the time that she was in the early stages of labor! She’s in the hospital right now, and my parents, my sister, and I are expecting a call at any time to let us know to rush over. We’re hanging out in Jared and Traci’s new house in Grand Rapids.

Carson is about a month ahead of schedule, but he’s past the point where they would stop the birth. If he wants to come, they’re going to let him do so. The Dr. says he’s more developed than most babies at that stage, and though he’s tiny, he should be fine. I’m pretty excited for my brother and his wife, and now I get to be that “crazy uncle Austin who skated across America!” I’ll keep you posted.
