The Power of Options

Most people who get into the dating game learn one interesting rule very quickly: the more options you have, the more power you have, and generally, the happier you are. This is true, whether you are a free-spirited 20-something or 15 years into a very committed marriage. Knowing that you have many opportunities on all sides puts you in a a more open and confident mindset.

Here’s the interesting part: This fact actually makes you more likely to come through and fulfill your commitments! Someone who knows that she could support herself and be complete apart from her marriage will approach relationship issues from a standpoint of confidence. This actually leads to a healthier relationship for both partners. In such situations, people are not committed to each other because they feel forced to; they are committed because they choose to be committed. This strengthens the marriage.

It Works in Business Too!

Savvy entrepreneurs and business people never put all of their eggs in one basket. Instead, they diversify and get involved with multiple ventures that all have strong potential. This means that a failure in one area can be offset by a success in another. Sometimes, it means that success in one venture can help to fund another venture that is taking longer to take off. IN OTHER WORDS: Options in the world of business give you power and help you to be successful in more pursuits. Success breeds success, and a feedback loop forms that gives momentum to all of your projects. In the world we are creating, the winners will be the most open, the most interested, and the most involved. The winners will be those who create multiple options for themselves. The winners, as always, will be those who “show up.”

Don’t be jealous or angry if the people or businesses you work with create options for themselves apart from you. You might not be able to see it, but they are working to make you and the relationship between you stronger! But only if you are courageous enough to be strong and open yourself as well.
