Part 1 – Squash Passivity
Part 3 – Adapt and Bounce

Make your Move #2 of 3: LEAD

I love to relate dating examples to overall life success. It makes sense: The dating world is the ultimate social test of most of our assumptions and attitudes about life. We take chances, learn what does and does not work, and adapt for future encounters.

I want to use a specific example today: Have you ever been in a situation with a romantic interest when things just didn’t seem to be moving forward? The pieces where there: attraction, common interests, and good chemistry, but something was missing. In most situations like this, the key element that is missing is ACTION. If you want to move things to the next level, you can’t just wait for fate or the other person to make it happen. You must lead with decisive action. Even if you lead with the wrong action and fail, it’s better than not leading at all. Failing to lead leaves you at the mercy of chance, or worse, the will of other people who do not have your best interest at heart.

That’s why I was so adamant about the importance of defining what you want in my last post: You can’t lead, if you don’t know what you’re moving toward. This applies to more than just dating dynamics. In all areas of life, there is something seductive and powerful about someone who knows what they want and has the courage to lead the way to it. This doesn’t mean you should try to control others. Strive rather to control and direct yourself.

If you ever want to move beyond simply imagining what you want and start realizing it, you must have the courage to lead. Take a chance and make some decisions. Fail if you must (you certainly will), but learn from it, and above all else, get back up and LEAD again.
